Dr. Hadijah Mbwana won the first cohort best projects of African Women in Tech and AI (AWITAI) program funding
Dr. Hadijah Mbwana, College of Agriculture, Department of Human Nutrition and Consumer Sciences, Sokoine University of Agriculture, Morogoro, Tanzania
She was awarded by the Ai Movement – International Artificial Intelligence Center of Morocco of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, in collaboration with OCP Foundation and supported by UNESCO.

Dr. Mbwana’s project was one among the best 8 funded projects, and it is in the scope of operationalization of an Artificial Intelligence powered meal planning and recommendation system for healthy and personalized diets. Leveraging the power of data analysis, machine learning and natural language processing, the system will provide tailored meal plans that meet nutritional needs, preferences and health goals. When operational, the system will help individuals and families ensure they are getting the right balance of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals, leading to improved overall health and well-being and reduce their risk of developing diet-related non-communicable diseases. Additionally, sustainable agriculture and food production will be enhanced by encouraging the consumption of locally grown, seasonal produce and traditional ingredients which can support sustainable agriculture and local food systems, benefiting farmers and communities while promoting food security.
