1. Global Gene Therapy Training

The American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy in collaboration with Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences welcomes you to Join us for the second year of our FREE virtual course 

If you’re an academic faculty member teaching at an accredited university or medical school in sub-Saharan Africa, apply for this eight-part course. ASGCT recently earned a Power of Associations Gold Award from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) for the first iteration of this course.

ASGCT Members will present the course material with the aim of instructing attendees to implement gene therapy education into their own curricula.

Course Topics

September 25: Genetics of human disorders

September 28 & October 3: Gene therapy overview Parts 1&2

October 5: Methods for correcting genetic diseases

October 10: Current status of clinical gene therapy

October 12: Use of gene therapy in cancer treatment

October 17: Ethical issues, regulatory challenges, and the role of patient advocacy groups and international partnerships in implementing gene therapies

October 19: How to Initiate a Clinical Trial

2. Postdoc Positions in the Hess Lab at UC Davis

Hess Lab at the University of California Davis (UC Davis) is recruiting two postdoctoral fellows to conduct research in the area of Microbial Ecology & Anaerobic Digestion (Position 1) and Microbial Ecology & Bioinformatics (Position 2). The successful candidates will work in the Hess Lab at the UC Davis and will be part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional team that will develop and employ CRISPR genome editing approaches to change the function of complex microbiomes towards low methane-emitting dairy and beef cattle and other anaerobic systems (e.g., digesters).The successful candidate will lead bioinformatic efforts, perform some wet-lab experiments, and work closely with the PI, all members of the Hess Lab, and its collaborators at UC Davis, UC Berkeley, and UC San Francisco.
