STRENGTHENING PRACTICAL SKILLS IN NUTRITION AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT: SUA HOSTS CAPACITY BUILDING SEMINAR ON SAM AND ECD

On 29 and 30 May 2025, the Department of Human Nutrition and Consumer Sciences at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) conducted a successful two-day capacity building seminar focused on the Management of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Early Childhood Development (ECD). Held at the Solomon Mahlangu Campus, the seminar brought together over 250 third-year undergraduate students from BSc Human Nutrition and BSc Family and Consumer Studies programs.

The seminar was delivered in partnership with Doctors with Africa CUAMM, an international NGO with extensive experience in public health. CUAMM professionals facilitated interactive sessions and practical demonstrations, equipping students with essential skills in nutritional assessment, therapeutic feeding, and developmental support for young children.

This training provided students with hands-on learning aligned with national health priorities and global ECD frameworks. The event also marked a step forward in strengthening academic-industry collaboration for better-prepared graduates in the health and nutrition sector.

SUA extends its appreciation to CUAMM for their commitment and support, and looks forward to deeper collaboration through future training and research initiatives.
