Prof.Catherine Phillip Msuya

Prof. Catherine Phillip Msuya is a holder of Ph.D. obtained in the year 2007 from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. She also graduated with MSc. Agricultural Education and Extension and BSc. Home Economics and Human Nutrition from the Sokoine University of Agriculture in the years 1998 and 1995, respectively. She has been serving as a lecturer at Sokoine University of Agriculture from 2000 to date. Since then, she has been involved in teaching various courses including Programme Planning and Management, Research Design and management, Action research & Participatory Methods, Agricultural Innovation system, Training for Development, and Facilitation Methods to both undergraduate and postgraduate students (Ph.D. and MSc. Students). She also supervises Ph.D., MSc, and Undergraduate students in their research work.

For about 20 years, Prof. Catherine has been involved in conducting action research, consultancy, extension and outreach activities on agricultural development, agricultural extension & service delivery, adoption of innovations, agricultural innovation system, and gender issues as shown in her detailed Curriculum Vitae linked at the end of this bio.

As far as administrative roles within the Sokoine University of Agriculture are concerned, Prof. Catherine served as

• The Head of Department of Agricultural Extension, and Community Development for six years from July 2011 to June 2017
• A Board Member of the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) from July 2014 to 2017
• Quality assurance chairperson at the Department of Food Science, Human Nutrition and Consumer Sciences From 2017 to June 2020
• A Member of Senate – the Sokoine University of Agriculture from 2011 to 2017
• A Member College of Agriculture board from 2011 to 2017
• A Board Member Sokoine Natural Agricultural Library from 2011 to 2014

Outside SUA, Prof. Catherine serves as

• The Chairperson of the Tanzania Society of Agricultural Education and Extension in (TSAEE) From December 2019 to Date
• The External Examiner University of Pretoria, South Africa from 2012 to date
• The External Examiner University of Limpopo, South Africa from 2018 to date
• The reviewer of papers published in the South African Journal of Agricultural Extension (SAJAE) from 2016 to date
• Member of the Board Kilombero Agricultural Training and Research Institute from September 2020
