Monica D. Nakei is an assistant lecturer at Sokoine University of Agriculture (Department of Soil and Geological Science). Professionally, she is a soil scientist with over 4 years teaching experience in the field of Agricultural chemistry (biochemistry) and, environmental pollution and management of agricultural wastes. Currently, she is a PhD student in Sustainable Agriculture at Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), School of Life Science and Bioengineering (LiSBE) and Department of Sustainable Agriculture, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Management (SABEM). Ms. Monica has general experience on agronomy and, soil science and land management. She has done her Bachelor and Master Degree researches on the use of plants extracts as the source of nutrients in vegetable crops and biodegradation of polyethylene plastics by soil microorganisms, respectively. She also did other research project activities with Seeds of Expertise for Vegetable Industry of Africa (SEVIA). Ms. Monica has been involved in consultancy work with UNIDO on phytoremediation of DDT and Lindane in Arusha and Morogoro regions, Tanzania.

February 16 –March 9, 2016: Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies (GSGES) at Kyoto University, Japan – Study on Environmental issues including (soil science, agronomy, environmental engineering, atmospheric chemistry and others.

December 18, 2019 - January 19, 2020: Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Global Innovation Research (GIR) Workshop of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT) and Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) Research Project. The major objective was learn the techniques to select the better Nitrogen fixation bacteria of leguminous plant for sustainable intensification in Tanzania

RESEARCH INTEREST:

Her research interest are on Biological Nitrogen Fixation specifically on soybean nodulating rhizobia diversity in Tanzania.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:

PhD student 2018-2021: Research project on Biological Nitrogen Fixation, “genetic diversity of Soybean Nodulating Rhizobia in Tanzania” The Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology

Research team member (2018): Seeds of Expertise for Vegetable Industry of Africa (SEVIA) Project activities which were on;

- Extent Effect of Fertilizer Use in Tomato and Water Melon Production on the Fertility Status of Wami Dakwa Soils.

-Development of Yield Response and Fertilizer Uptake Curves for   Major Vegetable Crops in Morogoro

-Comparative effectiveness of commonly used animal manures on soil   physical chemical properties, yield and tissue concentration of tomato and onions.
