{"id":2976,"date":"2023-06-14T15:19:59","date_gmt":"2023-06-14T12:19:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/farm\/?p=2976"},"modified":"2023-06-15T14:31:09","modified_gmt":"2023-06-15T11:31:09","slug":"broccoli-production-at-horticulture-unit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/farm\/index.php\/2023\/06\/14\/broccoli-production-at-horticulture-unit\/","title":{"rendered":"BROCCOLI PRODUCTION AT HORTICULTURE UNIT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Horticulture<strong> unit<\/strong> under the Department of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/farm\"><strong>Model training farm (MTF<\/strong>),<\/a> College of Agriculture at <a href=\"http:\/\/sua.ac.tz\">Sokoine university of Agriculture<\/a>, we produce various leafy vegetables including broccoli,\u00a0 it&#8217;s a vegetable which grows well during cool climatic condition<\/p>\n<p><b>Broccoli<\/b> (<em>Brassica oleraceae<\/em>\u00a0var.\u00a0<i>italica<\/i>) is an edible green plant in the\u00a0\u00a0(family Brassicaceae, genus\u00a0<i>Brassica<\/i>) whose large flowering head, stalkand small associated leaves\u00a0 are eaten as a vegetables. Broccoli has large flower heads, usually dark green, arranged in a tree-like structure branching out from a thick stalk which is usually light green. The mass of flower heads is surrounded by leaves. Broccoli is a particularly rich source of vitamin &#8211; C and vitamin K. Contents of its characteristic sulfur-containing glusinolete compounds, isothiocyanates and sulforaphane, are diminished by boiling but are better preserved by steaming, microwaving or stir-
