Horticulture unit<\/strong> under the department of model training farm(MTF)<\/a>, <\/strong>College\u00a0 of Agriculture, Sokoine University of Agriculture<\/a>, has an orchard special for production of fruits and vegetables. Among fruits all varieties of avocado especially Hass variety are asexually propagated, in recent years\u00a0 the production of fruits especially avocado has gained a mailstone. It has been witnessesed the efforts made by the government and other private sector in promoting\u00a0 the production of Avocado (Hass avocado) in Southern Highlands\u00a0 (Njombe and Mbeya).<\/p>\n

Due to increased demand for export, we as Horticulture unit of MTF are prepared to give a full support to the Government and private sectors through training and preparation of quality seedlings of different fruits. We are also obligated to prepare well trained experts by offering enough hands onto student<\/p>\n

At Horticulture unit we produce mass of root stocks which is grafted after five to six months in order to shorten the juvenility period, It takes up to three years after being planted on the main field to produce fruits for first harvest. All\u00a0 activities are carried out by students as part of their practical training under good instruction and supervision from\u00a0 qualified technical experts\u00a0 so as to assure quality of what we intended to produce as final products in labour markets.<\/p>\n
