Amon Petro Maerere (PhD), is a Professor in Horticulture. He teaches courses in Fruits, Spices and Aromatic Crops Sciences and Production. His main areas of research has been in agro-climatic adaptation, improvement of cultural and pest management practices for horticultural crops.

Since 2004, he has been leading research projects on plant micro-propagation and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices for fruit and vegetable crops, particularly; mango, banana, tomato and onion. He has published over 50 articles in peer reviewed journals, numerous conference papers, technical reports and extension materials.

Overtime he has served at various capacities (as Chairman, Vice Chairman and Member) to various professional organizations/institutions' Management and Advisory Boards in the country.
