The talented students with outstanding innovative business ideas from different fields competed in a <strong>project pitching<\/strong> event that was organized by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dprtc.sua.ac.tz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Directorate of Postgraduate Studies, Research, Technology Transfer, and Consultancy<\/a> (DPRTC) of <a href=\"https:\/\/sua.ac.tz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sokoine University of Agriculture<\/a> (SUA). The emphasized theme of this year is<strong> \u201cUniversity-Industry Partnership: A holistic approach to Accelerating Innovation and Technology in Agriculture\u201d<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">TRIFOD is founded by two SUA students \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/animal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Dr.-Gloria-Biography.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Gloria Njau<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/animal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Mr.-Mlowe-Biography.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mr. Gerald Mlowe.<\/a> Mr. Gerald Mlowe is currently the Chief Executive Officer of TRIFORD. He has excellent managerial abilities, experienced in providing advisory and consultancy services to improve the productivity of rangelands and resolved rangeland conflicts. He is also an entrepreneur, planner, conservationist, and manager of ecologically acceptable range management for economic gain. Mr. Gerald has just completed his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sua.ac.tz\/programme\/msc-public-health-pest-management\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Master\u2019s degree in Public Health Pest Management<\/a> at Sokoine University of Agriculture on the 41<sup>st<\/sup> SUA GRADUATION CEREMONY that was held on 25<sup>th<\/sup> of May 2023. Mr. Gerald has a background of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sua.ac.tz\/programme\/bachelor-science-range-management\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bachelor of Sciences in Range Management<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/animal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Animal, Aquaculture, and Range Sciences<\/a> at SUA pursued in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5296 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/animal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/IMG-20230528-WA0014-300x205.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"938\" height=\"641\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/animal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/IMG-20230528-WA0014-300x205.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/animal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/IMG-20230528-WA0014-1024x701.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/animal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/IMG-20230528-WA0014-768x526.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/animal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/IMG-20230528-WA0014.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 938px) 100vw, 938px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Dr. Glory Njau received a 2nd Winner Prize from the Guest of Honour the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dus.sua.ac.tz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Director of Undergraduate Studies<\/a> at SUA &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dus.sua.ac.tz\/staff\/nyambilila-amuri\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Nyambilila Amuri\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Dr. Gloria Njau is one of the founders of TRIFORD. She has prior experience in Veterinary professional practices. Dr. Gloria has been working as a Poultry Veterinarian and trainer for two companies that is <a href=\"https:\/\/akmglitters.co.tz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AKM Glitters<\/a> (2017) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silverlandstanzania.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Silverlands Tanzania Company Limited<\/a> (2018 \u2013 2020). She pursued a Bachelor&#8217;s degree in <a href=\"https:\/\/sua.ac.tz\/programme\/bachelor-veterinary-medicine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Veterinary Medicine<\/a> at SUA in 2016, and currently, she is in the Master of Public Health Pest Management program at SUA. Addressing the competition between animal feed production and human food production in most parts of Africa requires a balanced and sustainable approach. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">It is important to find a balance that ensures both food security for the growing human population and sustainable livestock production. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">TRI-FOD come up with a cutting-edge innovation that aims to solve the scarcity of forage and poor-quality feed. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">TRI-FOD provides quality animal feed in three forms; that is Pellets, Hay, and Silage. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">With these appropriate strategies, Tanzania can work towards improving animal performance, enhancing food security, and supporting the livelihoods of farmers in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">During the pitching competition event, Mr. Fikiri Matatizo a 3<sup>rd<\/sup> yr student in Bachelor of Science with Education majoring in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conas.sua.ac.tz\/chemistryphysics\/bachelor-of-science-with-education-physics-and-information-technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Physics and Information Technology,<\/a> presented his brilliant promising project and emerged as the 1st winner. His innovation involves developing a mobile application known as the \u201cPlant Diseases Detection and Monitoring App.\u201d By leveraging the power of machine vision (MV) technology driven by artificial intelligence (AI), the app aims to detect and monitor diseases that commonly affect tomato plants. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">To support the economic importance of tomato farming, it is essential to address the health challenges faced by farmers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5297 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/animal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/IMG-20230528-WA0017-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"835\" height=\"557\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/animal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/IMG-20230528-WA0017-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/animal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/IMG-20230528-WA0017-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/animal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/IMG-20230528-WA0017.jpg 996w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 835px) 100vw, 835px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Mr. Gerald and Dr. Glory from the left, together with Mr. Fikiri (in the middle), the first winner and the 3rd Winners from the right AHSO Team<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The third winner is Aquahome Services Organisation (AHSO), led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/animal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Mr.-Magoti-Ernest-Biography.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mr. Magoti Ernest<\/a>, a 3rd yr <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sua.ac.tz\/programme\/bachelor-science-aquaculture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bachelor of Science in Aquaculture<\/a> offered from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/animal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Animal, Aquaculture, and Range Sciences<\/a>, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">comes with creative innovations in value addition to ornamental fish by employing furniture components like aquarium tables, showcases, and cabinets in various interesting designs. TRIFORD Innoversity project is under the coaching and mentorship of an academic staff from the Department of Animal, Aquaculture and Range Sciences in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">College of Agriculture<\/a>. Innoversity Project is funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/tz.ambafrance.org\/-English-version-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">France Embassy in Tanzania<\/a> and implemented by <a href=\"https:\/\/saharaventures.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sahara Ventures<\/a> to support Tanzania Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) toward third-generation universities incorporating innovation and entrepreneurship beyond academics and research.
