My heartfelt appreciation goes to the Hon. Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Angellah Jasmine Mbelwa Kairuki, and the Ambassador of Tanzania to Switzerland, Hoyce Anderson Temu, for attending the awards ceremony and proudly representing our nation on this important occasion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sua.ac.tz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sokoine University of Agriculture<\/a> for providing me with an environment that nurtures innovation, research, and academic excellence. Special thanks to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coa.sua.ac.tz\/animal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Animal, Aquaculture and Range Sciences<\/a>, in the College of Agriculture where I serve as an Assistant Lecturer, for its continuous support, encouragement, and commitment to advancing research and innovation in aquaculture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">This recognition is one of the greatest milestones of my career and serves as a powerful motivation to continue developing innovative AI solutions that address real-world environmental and community challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">I am also pleased to announce that the project has been selected for presentation during Goldman Environmental Prize events in London this October. In addition, it has been communicated to Tanzania&#8217;s Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and the Tanzania Forest Services Agency for further engagement and potential collaboration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Congratulations to all the outstanding finalists. The first-place award was won by Prof. Tedd Cheeseman from the University of California. It was an honour to compete alongside exceptional innovators from around the world, and I am humbled to have achieved this recognition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Above all, I give thanks to God for this incredible blessing. This achievement is not only a personal milestone but also a proud moment for Tanzania, Sokoine University of Agriculture, and everyone who believes in the power of artificial intelligence to create meaningful environmental and social impact.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The journey has just begun, and I remain committed to using science, innovation, and artificial intelligence to transform aquaculture and improve livelihoods across Africa and beyond.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The ITU AI for Good Impact Awards are a highlight of the annual AI for Good Global Summit 2026 held in Geneva, Switzerland. The platform features innovative projects tackling the UN&#8217;s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through machine learning and data science. The AI for Good Impact Awards recognize transformative AI solutions that advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the 2026 edition features three core categories: AI for People, AI for Planet, and AI for Prosperity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Applications closed on March 15, 2026, drawing over 300 applications from 65 countries. An international panel of judges selected nine finalists to showcase their solutions, which are honored at the AI for Good Global Summit held in Geneva. Among the nine projects selected to pitch live on the global stage are <strong>AI for People<\/strong>: Features HungerMap Live 2.0 (WFP), PoBot (Migrasia), and ReadBuddy (Rising Hope). <strong>AI for Planet &amp; Prosperity:<\/strong> Highlights include the AquaShield project from Tanzania.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">At the ITU AI for Good Impact Awards 2026, Ernest Magoti (Magoti Ernest Ndaro) from the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) is a finalist representing Tanzania. He will present AquaShield, an AI-supported aquaculture training platform designed to empower communities in sustainable fish farming.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Ernest&#8217;s project, AquaShield, specifically targets agricultural and environmental sustainability by utilizing AI to guide farmers on responsible and productive aquaculture techniques.
