The Tanzania Society of Agricultural Education and Extension (TSAEE) is inviting you to the conference and Annual General Meeting to be held in Dodoma from 7th - 8th  December, 2020. The conference is planned to be held at the Institute of Rural Development Planning (Chuo cha Mipango) in Dodoma starting at 8:30 a.m.  The overall theme of the conference is the “Contribution of Agricultural extension towards industrialization in Tanzania”.

Dr. Madaha shares his opinion on gender and COVID19 at Abood FM

Abood 1On 13th November 2020, Dr. Rasel Madaha was invited to a Gender show broadcasted by Abood FM. Madaha shared his views on Gender and Covid19 at the show from around 5 p.m to 5:15 p.m. His host was Vumilia Kondo, a journalist, and broadcaster, working for Abood Media. Overall, Vumilia asked Dr. Madaha his views on the effects of COVID19 on women's participation in the election and productive activities.

What is BSc. Applied Agricultural Extension?

B.Sc. Applied Agricultural Extension has the intention of preparing graduates capable of transforming agriculture and rural development to boost the national economy. The program is geared at doubling of agricultural output, increasing rural incomes, and ensuring national food security. Current graduates play a key role in the transformation of smallholder production systems from subsistence to commercial level. They also play a role in increasing diversification into high-value agricultural products, as a means to rural poverty reductions across developing countries.

The Uniqueness of the Bachelor of Community Development (BCD) offered at SUA

Community development is a planned effort to produce physical, human, social, financial, and environmental assets that increase the capacity of residents to improve their quality of life. The role of a community development expert or agent is to enable the community to own the development process and the associated outcome. In this regard, the Bachelor of Community Development (BCD) degree is an interdisciplinary degree program emphasizing applied action research and programming aimed at developing rural and urban communities. The program is designed to equip students with skills to empower communities in Tanzania and abroad. The degree addresses a growing need for community development experts and planners in public and private sectors from across the developing world. The graduates become community development experts and planners in the public and private sectors who ensure the attainment of effective community development.

Second Call for Applications to pursue Bachelor of Community Development and BSc. Applied Agricultural Extension

The department is happy to welcome all who have been selected to join our Department for the degrees of Bachelor of Community Development and BSc. Applied Agricultural Extension. We encourage prospective students with multiple admissions to confirm their readiness to join our Department by logging into their SUA application account (click here), and confirm. The students are required to confirm from 9th to 17th October, 2020.

Meanwhile, we encourage those who have not been selected to join other degree programs to apply to the degree offered at our department. The second application window has been open since 12th October 2020. The window will remain open until 18th October 2020. The department still has a number of slots for interested applicants. The Department's degree programs include BSc. Applied Agricultural Extension with an admission capacity of 400 students (with around 50% filled), and a Bachelor of Community Development with an admission capacity of 500 students (with around 40% filled).

The Department of Agricultural Extension and Community Development congratulates Prof. A.Z. Mattee, and Dr. I.M. Busindeli who in collaboration with Dr. E.T.N. Malisa have published an article titled, “Promoting Sustainable Agriculture and Natural Resource Management through the Process Approach: Experience from UMADEP Project of Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania.” The article has been published in the Tanzania Journal of Agricultural Sciences (2020) Vol. 19 No. 1, 44-52.
